Frequently Asked Questions:
How do I become certified?
The process for certification is this: You begin by taking the Fitness Theory course. Once completed, you move on to the Personal Training course or the Group Fitness course (depending on in which you would like to become certified). Once you have completed the in class course for personal training or group fitness, you must complete a practical component. This means that you will find a placement with a certified trainer or group leader and practice teachng/training. Once you have accumulated 20 hours (for Personal Training) or 8-10 hours (for Group Fitness) and are ready for your assessment, you will contact an assessor and s/he will come and assess you teaching your class/training your client. Once you have completed and passed the practical assessment it is at this point you become certified.
Why should I do my leadership training through this program when there are courses available that are faster?
The training process that is followed by the Fitness Leadership Certification Program allows for better learning and retention over a longer period of time. There is a great amount of knowledge that we include in our program and having the time to learn and apply this information is critical. There is a high level of education required to be an effective trainer/leader and our course provides this critical knowledge base.
Who teaches these programs?
The FLCP course conductor is Deanna Lawson-Langford (that's me!). I have been leading fitness classes and doing personal training for nearly 15 years. I have been a certified personal trainer for 10 years and a certified leader for nearly 15 years. I have been teaching fitness theory for 12 years, group for 6 years and personal training for 3 years. This has allowed me a wonderful opportunity to train some truly awesome leaders and trainers throughout Hamilton and the area. I have a passion for fitness leadership, and fitness in general and am truly inspired by the students I have the opportunity to work with through the FLCP!! Hope to see you soon!
