Since 2009, thousands of people have walked in solidarity with survivors of violence and raised more than $1.5M to power YWCA Hamilton’s programs and services. On this 16th anniversary of Walk a Mile in Their Shoes, YWCA Hamilton aims to raise $150,000 to support services which enable women and gender-diverse people to escape violence and rebuild their lives.
Join us on June 11th, 2025, for Walk a Mile in Their Shoes at Hamilton City Hall!

Over the last year, these funds have made a tremendous impact. Over 200 women and gender-diverse people who have experienced gender-based violence received 4,215 hours of counselling, custody and legal support, safety planning and more. Women (including newcomers), children and families found safe shelter, wraparound supports and settlement supports.
In 2025, funds will support survivors by providing them safe shelter and gender-based violence services that connect women and children with the time, space, and supports to rebuild their lives after violence. Funds will facilitate the expansion of dedicated shelter beds and perinatal supports for women navigating pregnancy, gender-based violence, and homelessness. They will also help us with offering our unique, child-focused model of Supervised Parenting Services to families where safety is a significant concern, delivering tailored gender-based violence counselling for women and non-binary people from marginalized communities, and providing many other wraparound supports to ensure that women, children and gender-diverse people who experience violence have the supports and services they need to rebuild their lives.
