YWCA Hamilton Announces 34 incredible Women Nominated for the 2018 Women of Distinction Awards

Nominees were honoured on Thursday, 18 January 18 2018 at the Art Gallery of Hamilton during the Women of Distinction Nominee Reception. The nominee reception was sponsored by Mercedes-Benz Burlington.

The Women of Distinction Awards are nationally recognized as one of the most prestigious awards for women. YWCAs from across Canada join in the celebration each year, honouring the achievements of women across the country.

Recipients of YWCA Hamilton’s Women of Distinction Awards will be announced at the awards evening on Thursday, March 8, 2018 (International Women’s Day) at Hamilton Convention Centre by Carmen’s. YWCA Hamilton is pleased to announce that ArcelorMittal Dofasco is this year’s Presenting Sponsor.

Women of Distinction Nominees and their Categories

Auction Volunteer

TYPE: Virtual
TIME COMMITMENT: Monthly; 1-5 hours
TERMS OF POSITION: Six (6) month commitment, October to April

The YWCA Hamilton Auction Volunteer, while providing assistance to the Philanthropy & Communications team, will seek, inventory and organize donated items to support our signature annual auction for the 2022 YWCA Hamilton Women of Distinction Awards.

Bingo

TYPE: In-person
TIME COMMITMENT: 1-2 shifts/ month; Sunday from 11:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m., 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
TERMS OF POSITION: One (1) year commitment

The YWCA Hamilton BINGO Volunteer, will attend scheduled events at Princess Bingo Hall in Hamilton, ON. Bingo Volunteers sell bingo cards to attendees and funds are raised to support the important programming and services offered at YWCA Hamilton

Provides support to women accessing the Carole Anne’s Place program, an Out of the Cold program, designed to provide a safe, warm, supportive space for women when shelter beds are full.

Donation Driver

TYPE: In-person
TIME COMMITMENT: Monthly; Minimum: 2 hours, Maximum: 10+ hours
TERMS OF POSITION: Six (6) month commitment

The YWCA Hamilton Donation Driver Volunteer, while providing assistance to the Philanthropy & Communications team, will pick-up donated items from community members and businesses in designated communities across Hamilton and Halton and drop them off at YWCA Hamilton locations.

Donation Room Organizer

TYPE: In-person
TIME COMMITMENT: Monthly; Minimum: 2 hours
TERMS OF POSITION: Six (6) month commitment

The YWCA Hamilton Donation Room Organizer Volunteer, while providing assistance to the Philanthropy & Communications team, will organize, inventory and distribute donated items across all YWCA Hamilton locations to our service users.

Early Childhood Assistant (Relief)

Assists with the efficient daily operation and activity in an early learning and licensed child care center, working collaboratively with child care staff and the Supervisor, Children’s Programs.

A member of the youth-led RISE Collective at YWCA Hamilton will make a change in their community. RISE Collective members are between the ages of 15 and 30 years and focus their efforts on amplifying the voices of young women, non-binary, and gender fluid youth across Hamilton and Halton.
