International performer, producer, teacher, and social justice advocate Cadence Machry has been a neo-burlesque industry leader for 15 years. A burlesque instructor since 2007, she founded Pink Velvet Burlesque (2005–13), The Hamilton Burlesque Society (2016–present), and The Hamilton School of Burlesque (2019). In 2018, she led the campaign to revise the local bylaw to include burlesque as an art form. In 2019, she established the New Talent Showcase, appeared on the cover of Hamilton Magazine, and was nominated for a Hamilton Arts Award. Machry has a passion for mentorship and loves to work with new performers. Her volunteer work centres on her studio, Creative Heart Space, and her role as Family and Youth Coordinator for Pride Hamilton 2020. Cadence is also a volunteer with SWAP (Sex Workers Action Program) and is a consultant on the Shaw Festival’s production of “Gypsy”.
