Children’s Services

We're here for families.

As the second-largest provider of child care in the country, child care is a cornerstone of advocacy for YWCAs across Canada. We're leading the way in building a case for universal, quality child care in Ontario and beyond.

Family Access Centre

This unique program provides a safe, neutral, child-focused environment where court orders or agreements between children and their non-custodial parents of other family member can be facilitated through supervision by trained YWCA Hamilton staff. Factual observation notes are documented in each visit and reported back to the Family Court system. In 2017, we arranged 538 non-custodial parental visits and 160 exchanges between parents, ensuring the safety of children and parents where domestic violence, mental health, substance abuse or risk of abduction are of concern. We supported 131 children with 126 families through YWCA Hamilton’s Family Access Centre.

The Family Access Centre provides a critical service to ensure the safety of children and their families. This program creates a safe space where visitations and exchanges can occur free of conflict, violence or pressure on children.

For more information about the Family Access Centre, please contact the program administrator at 905-522-9922 ext. 139

PROGRAM UPDATE DURING COVID-19:

The Family Access Program is currently closed for in-person visits and exchanges. We will continue to offer virtual sessions and visitations with families until the end of 2020. Our team will explore the possibilities of in-person visitations in 2021 should we remain in the yellow zone.
