Founded in 1889, YWCA Hamilton is known as one of Hamilton’s original social innovators and works from a feminist, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive framework. Key Functions

Provides leadership for YWCA Hamilton’s Social Enterprise, including At the Table, internal and external food services including childcare, transitional housing residents, the café and catering. Develops and implements high quality food services and hospitality; manages kitchen/café staff.

  • Oversees and manages the successful delivery of food preparation and cooking activities for the entire Social Enterprise, including the Café and external catering, internal meetings and programs (housing and childcare);
  • Manages and monitors the effective day to day operations of the Social Enterprise;
  • Develops the business plan and budgets for the social enterprise;
  • Represents the YWCA Hamilton and At the Table externally through donor relations, community engagement events, and media;
  • Nurtures and forms meaningful internal and external working relationships and partnerships to advance YWCA’s Social Enterprise goals and strategies;
  • Prepares grant proposals in coordination with other YWCA program leads, for employment training, skills building and food provision for YWCA clients;
  • In partnership with Development, initiates and supports food programs for fundraising and public relations such as Recipe for Change;
  • Identifies opportunities for revenue generation and access to prepared food for YWCA transitional housing residents;
  • Initiates, oversees and tracks all revenue generating activities including catering sales, café promotion, and others;
  • Leads client meetings and tastings for event planning;
  • Determines food requirements, orders products, monitors and improves inventory control process;
  • Prepares menus for the Café and catering, ensures quality of food and portion control, filling in production gaps where required;
  • Instructs staff in preparation, garnishing and presentation of food and new cooking techniques; demonstrates new equipment;
  • Provides training and job opportunities for women and young women supported by YWCA programs and partners within the scope of the business plan, budget, and grants
  • Tracks and analyzes sales data; makes recommendations to improve Café and catering business performance;
  • Ensures proper safety and sanitation in kitchen;
  • Ensures proper equipment operations and maintenance;
  • Directly manages and coaches 5-7 employees, including recruiting, training, monitoring and evaluating performance, Schedules staff according to business needs;
  • Ensures compliance with the Health Protection and Promotion Act;




  • Works 37.50 hours work week with various shifts of days, afternoons, evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to use frequent light to medium physical effort: lifting up to 22 kg, bending and stooping;


  • Completion of 1-year College in culinary arts, or equivalent;
  • Minimum 5 years’ hospitality experience, with a minimum of 2 years’ supervisory experience;
  • Must have Safe Food Handling certificate; understanding of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP);
  • Demonstrated experience and skill in menu planning, costing and budgeting;
  • Experience with public speaking, donor relations, and media;
  • Must be able to lead from a feminist, anti-racist, anti-oppressive framework, and apply that perspective to operations and strategic planning.
  • Ability to work various shifts of days, afternoons, evenings and weekends;
  • Must provide a current Criminal Record Judicial Matters Police check or willingness to obtain at own cost;
  • Must have current Standard First Aid and CPR certificate or willingness to obtain at own cost;
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License and use of reliable car with appropriate insurance;
  • Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset.
