Jessica Crowe Mini Profile
Budding Leader: Jessica Crowe thrives in YWCA Hamilton’s Developmental Services Imagine Day Program
Jessica enthusiastically describes her latest art project she crafts in the Imagine Day program (formerly Y’Art and CASS) through YWCA Hamilton’s Developmental Services. The avid crafter who always has a project on the go at home explains how she’s taken wooden boxes from the dollar store and glued them together to create an advent calendar, visualizing the layout with her hands. She’s thought out every aspect of the project from construction, to decoration, to what kind of candy to fill the boxes with.
The first person Jessica shares her plan with is Jen, one of the program staff. Since the return to in-person programming, Jessica has started to facilitate activities for her fellow participants. The calendar is her latest idea, one of many creative art projects Jessica has dreamt up.
“I like being in-person because it gets me out of the house,” said Jessica, who welcomed the return to in-person day programming in October. “It’s so nice to get out and see everybody again, to see Jen and Monica face to face.”
The support and encouragement Jessica receives from the Developmental Services staff has helped her to nurture her talents for helping people and making friends. She is eager to take the lead and find new ways to engage with her peers in the program.
“The staff are really great. If I need to talk to anyone, they’re there to listen,” she said enthusiastically.
When fleshing out her ideas for activities, Jessica keeps inclusion at top of mind. It’s important to her that in-person and virtual participants alike can feel like they belong.
It’s exciting to see what Jessica will pursue next as she continues to develop her leadership skills and explore her creative side.
