Violence Against Women and Gender Based Violence Services

Settling into a new country can be hard and we want to help in any way we can.

Our Violence Against Women and Gender-Based Violence Services are designed to help newcomer, immigrant, and refugee women address their unique needs through community resources and referrals, short term sessional counseling and workshops.

We focus on experiences of violence or abuse, before and after moving to Canada, and how this has impacted the ability to successfully and safely integrate and settle into Canada. Our FREE counseling will provide you with the support you need. Together, we will discuss safety planning for you and your family and discuss the steps to take to ensure your independence. We will also provide you with the information you need to build strong community connections.

Join us to access these supports and services:

One-on-one Counseling

Join us to participate in one-on-one counseling with a female counselor to provide you with the support and resources that you need to settle in your community. Our violence against women and gender-based violence counseling services are client-centered, meaning that we will work with you on your unique needs and advocate for you to ensure that you have what you need to rebuild.

Specialized Workshops

Join us to engage in unique workshops tailored to strengthen your connections with the community and build lasting relationships. Our workshops will also give you an opportunity to explore your creative side through arts based programming in group settings. Often times, we will partner with other professionals and community organizations to provide you with even more exciting workshops!

Needs Assessment and Referrals

Join us and share your story. We want to know how to best support you in your settlement journey. When you reach out, we will complete a full needs assessment to make sure you have access to the support and resources that you need. Sometimes, we will connect you with other agencies and community organizations if we do not offer what it is that you require at YWCA Hamilton.

Enhanced Supports

Join us to access a safe, inclusive environment to support you in a successful settlement and integration in your new community. Through our enhanced supports, we can also provide you with child care access, transportation and translation services.
