POSITION TITLE: Meal Serving Volunteer, Carole Anne’s Place (CAP)

POSITION TYPE: Volunteer In-Person

LOCATION: 75 MacNab St. S, Hamilton, Ontario  

HOURS OF WORK: Daily 9:30am – 12pm or 5:30pm-7:30 pm

 

OBJECTIVE: Carole Anne’s Place (CAP) is a low-barrier drop-in for unsheltered women and non-binary individuals in Hamilton.  Individuals accessing the drop in are provided with meals, access to showers and basic needs, low barrier health care, harm reduction and withdrawal management services, safe drug use space from 10:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m., systems navigation and shelter referrals, advocacy, care planning and coordination.

 

REPORTS TO: Volunteer Coordinator

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Serving prepared meals to residents (meals are prepared in advance);
  • Supports in the cleanup of kitchen (such as washing serving utensils, wiping counters, discarding expired food items to maintain health and safety standards, etc…);
  • Adhere to all policies as outlined in the YWCA Volunteer Training;
  • Connect with the coordination team with any concerns prior to the completion of your volunteer shift.
  • Works safely and reports all workplace hazards;
  • Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values;
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet and welcome YWCA Hamilton visitors, service recipients, volunteers, and staff in a courteous and professional manner as they approach the front desk
  • Answer questions about the organization and provide callers with social and recreational resources and other information using proper telephone etiquette
  • Perform various administrative duties such as filing, faxing, scanning, photocopying, managing incoming and outgoing mails
  • Perform a wide range of support requiring duties such as booking and scheduling rooms for meetings, and manage keys for user groups
  • Ensure the safety of self and others; Report any hazards, serious concerns, or issues to the Guest Services Manager
  • Assist Facilities team with other tasks as they arise such as moving packages, refilling disinfectant spray bottles and etc
  • Maintain tidiness and organization in the reception area
  • Adhere to all policies as outlined in the YWCA Volunteer Training
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

NECESSARY TRAINING / COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • YWCA Volunteer Training
  • Position Specific Orientation

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift and bend.
