YWCA Hamilton is pleased to offer Pre-Apprenticeship programs for persons with disabilities and mental health barriers at no-cost, providing participants with technical training and job coaching to start their career in the skilled trades.
Program Overview
A Construction Craft Worker Pre-Apprentice works on a wide variety of structures, such as residential, industrial, commercial, and institutional sites as well as hydroelectric dams, roadways, bridges, tunnels, mining and railways. They may also work on utility, landscape and pipeline projects.
A Construction Craft Worker Pre-Apprentice:
- prepares and cleans up the site, sets up and removes access equipment and works on concrete, masonry, steel, wood and pre-cast erecting projects
- handles materials and equipment and performs demolition, excavation and compaction activities
- has responsibility for site security
- may specialize in operating off-road vehicles, drilling and blasting, scaling, sandblasting, high pressure washing, diving, tunneling and performing emergency rescue
Successful participants will receive:
- Financial support for daily living, transportation and training
- 15 Workplace Safety Certificates
- Job readiness training
- 23 weeks training
- Assistance securing up to 12-weeks PAID placement
To be eligible for these programs, you must fill the following requirements:
- A minimum of Grade 10 and proof of a minimum of 16 credits
- All genders, ages 18+ participants must identify with a disability and/or mental health barrier
- Able to travel to training and work sites
