Position Summary

Join us on event day to roll up your sleeves and support the execution of one of Hamilton’s most exciting events, Walk a Mile in Their Shoes. As a Walk a Mile in Their Shoes Event Volunteer, you can assist with a range of pre-event tasks and event day supports. Be a friendly face to the community by helping folks at any of our 6 activation stations on the day of the Walk a Mile in Their Shoes Event on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 from 8am to 3pm (approximately).

POSITION TITLE: Walk a Mile in Their Shoes Event Volunteer

POSITION TYPE: In-person, short-term

DEPARTMENT: Philanthropy

SUPERVISOR: Volunteer Coordinator.

TIME COMMITMENT: Wednesday, June 11, 2025, from 8 am to 3 pm

AREAS OF INTEREST: Community Engagement, Customer Service, Sales, Fundraising

IDEAL FOR: Individuals, Families, High School Students, Community Groups

WHAT WILL YOU RECEIVE: We’ll provide you with training to help prepare you for what to expect!

WHAT WILL I NEED TO DO?

  • Set up and tear down of all 6 stations.
  • Greet walkers as they arrive and engage with the community over the entirety of the event.
  • Check folks in and accept donations or registration fees.
  • Ask walkers why they are walking today and help them fill in their walker bibs and design their signs.
  • Sort through and hand out red shoes to guests.
  • Encourage folks to participate in the warm up before the ceremony and get them hyped for the award ceremony and walk.
  • Help prepare lunch and ensure the area is set up with napkins, plates and ensure that there are refreshments available.

TIME REQUIRED

  • Optional support pre-event set up – minimum of 1 hour, up to 3 hours.
  • Attendance on June 11th – minimum of 4 hours, up to 7 hours.

PHYSICAL TASKS/ENVIRONMENT:

Lifting 30+lbs independently, pick up from YWCA Hamilton and drop off to City of Hamilton Forefront, repetitive lifting/pulling, standing for long periods of time.

The successful candidate will be committed to working from an anti-oppression, feminist perspective.
